why I like a spatula
A stainless makeup spatula is a flat blade for spreading liquid foundation. It doesn't soak product up the way a sponge can, and there are no bristles to leave lines. It takes a few tries to get the feel.
1. loading: blade at 90 degrees
I pump a little foundation onto the back of my hand. Then I hold the blade upright, at 90 degrees, and scrape across the drop so only a thin line of product sits along the edge.
2. glide, then tap
Tilt the blade to about 45 degrees against your cheek and glide it in one smooth swipe. Then tap it in right away with a slightly damp puff or sponge, before it dries.
Thin layers: one swipe is a sheer layer. Add another if you want more.
Tap, don't drag: the sponge presses the layer onto your skin, and dragging just pushes it around.
Wipe the blade: I clean it after every use. An alcohol wipe works for me.
what this guide can't promise
This is a technique, not a guaranteed finish. It depends on how your foundation behaves and how thin you can spread it, and it takes a few tries. I can't tell from a photo how a formula will glide.
